About Joseph's mother, Lucy: "She was the one who knew the right thing to do, to set matters in order, to stand up to error, and eventually to save the day. She was a spirited woman, outspoken and candid, forceful under pressure. Confronting the doctors, she declared, 'You will not, you must not, take off his leg until you try once more. I will not consent to let you enter his room until you make me this promise.'"
I love this description of a valiant mother. It says that there is a place for all different types of mothers, the nuturers as well as the fighters.
