Moses 3:17 "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, nevertheless, thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given unto thee; but, remember that I forbid it, for in the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
It is possible that this is a book. Often in the scriptures, reading a book is referred to as eating that book. Which could mean that all the "trees" in the garden were books and they could read all of them except two.
Then again, maybe I am just imagining up images in the smoke . . . ha, ha.
Nonetheless, it is significant that a knowledge of good and evil necessitated a separation from God. This, then, is the death spoken of. It was a spiritual death. We have been taught that this partaking of knowledge of good and evil was necessary in order for us to progress and to fulfill the purposes of the earth's creation. And yet, we were forbidden. I think this was necessary, because we had to choose it ourselves. We needed to know there was danger there. We needed to know that when we did partake, we would be leaving the complete protection of God. We would still have it to a point. It seems much like when a child leaves home to take on the role of adult. Parents are still available for counsel and comfort, but the "child" who is now an adult, takes on the responsibility and thus the consequences for his or her own choices.
