"So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people . . ." Ezra 3:13. Isn't it interesting how often joy and weeping mix?
In the next chapter of Ezra, the neighboring cities write a letter to the king, begging him to not let the people of Jerusalem rebuild their temple. They know the Jews will be powerful with their temple built. The king researches the history of Jerusalem, AGREES, and commands them to stop building the temple. Interesting how people who don't believe, do.
Alma Chapter 2
The Nephites have just been fighting a huge battle with very strong Amlicites, but they pray, and gain the advantage. As the last of the Amlicites flee, they find a huge army of Lamanites on their way to attack the Nephites. The Lamanites are as numerous, almost, as the sands of the sea. Bad day for the Nephites. In fact, it should have been disastrous. They were already worn out from fighting the day before and running today and they were outnumbered by hundreds if not thousands by the sound of it. They should not have won. There was something else. It was the power of God and you can see the proof of it when you look at the equation. Without Him, it would not have added up.
D&C 76
What if we choose the kingdom we want to be in because it is where we are most comfortable. What if we have already chosen and we walk amongst ourselves, some enjoying the glorious companionship of the Father and others without him, being driven by the Father of Lies? What if our kingdom is inside of ourselves?
