People who don't have religion still seek for spirituality (they have rejected dogma but not spirituality)--often this is New Age.
People who don't have religion still seek to explore the unknowable--sometimes this is UFOs.
People who don't have religion still seek for meaning--they usually find this in family and close relationships.
People who don't have religion still seek for belonging to a group with shared culture. As the culture of our country fragments due in large part to the exponential increase of options in news and entertainment, this is becoming less of something they can find.
This podcast goes through a lot of things that people do get from religion: control for the chaos, spirituality, exploring the unknowable, meaning, belonging. But also, a manifestation of the Ideal. How do we live our best life?
