I finished the third book in a trilogy called, "The Aurora Cycle," by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It was a ton of fun because it takes place in space and in the future. They've encountered and allied with many new races found on other planets. All the races though, are bipedal and carbon-based and they believe that because of this they all come from one original race who they call "The Makers."
I liked how that aligns with LDS beliefs that God has created more than one world--worlds without number.
Also, the supreme evil in the book is a plant-based organism that subsumes each individual into one great whole. I am struck over and over again that evil in our stories whether sci-fi, fantasy, or dystopian always come down to someone taking away our ability to choose.
I am always struck with how that aligns with the LDS story of the war in heaven and Satan's plan to take away our ability to choose.
Finally, the books explore through two very powerful characters the end result of living our lives for love or for . . . well, for anything else, really.
