Testimony Meeting

Sister Nelson told of an incident on her trip to Taiwan.  On the bus trip back to the airport, one lady was particularly rude to her.  Sister Nelson and her husband had accidentally gotten on the wrong bus and gone three hours past their destination.  The bus driver helped them to get on the right bus back and transfer their luggage -- of which their was much -- her husband helped as best he could with his bad back.  After the confusion and the physical labor, Sister Nelson and her husband asked if they could board the bus early so they could sit down.  When the other passengers (who had been waiting in line) were allowed to board the bus, this one lady went on and on in a very loud voice about how the Nelson's must have thought they were better than everyone else in order to ask the privilege of being on the bus early and none of the rest of them merited such privelges, etc. etc.  Sister Nelson felt awful and embarrased!  Things settled down but she continued to have these awful feelings about the experience.  She prayed in her heart that she would be able to do something to make things right with this woman so she could feel better and not leave the country with such bad feelings.

The woman's destination was before the Nelson's and when she rose to leave, she found she did not have enough money for the bus fare (you pay at your destination in Taiwan) nor the exact change.  Brother and Sister Nelson agreed with a look and they got the money together for the woman so she could pay the fare.  Sister Nelson said she was so grateful for that opportunity and knew it was the Lord answering her prayer.

I love how well this small story illustrates the commandment, "Love them that hate you, pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you."  I also love how well it demonstrates the healing power of the commandment.  Sister Nelson actually prayed for a way to make herself feel better, and it is through this commandment of loving and serving our enemies that we are freed from the anger.  It is an example of how God's commandments are given to us to bless us.  It shows God's love.
