President Fisher taught about Agency. He said that Agency is the ability to pursue virtue and that is why it is only available with the atonement. The default position is evil. Satan gives us many options for choosing paths away from God, but this is not Agency. God offers us one path back to Him. Only when it is available are we truly free to choose. For only then are we provided with a different choice: the ability to choose to come back to God. Think of it as a human hand. Four fingers all represent different paths, but they are all offered by Satan, and none lead back to God. The thumb represents the one path offered by God and is the only way that will lead back to Him. Agency is the chance to get back to God. We can still choose all the different paths back to Satan, but because of the atonement, we have a new choice -- a true one because it actuallly produces a different outcome -- would you rather go back to live with God?

True agency is only available when the path to God is available. The path to God is only available because of the atonement.
