Tell your children what you want them to be rather than what you want them to do. (And think yourself in terms of your "to be" list rather than your "to do" list!) You shouldn't need spiritual experiences all the time to keep your testimony. Just keep going and doing the Lord's will. Pres. Uchtdorf said that God gives spiritual experiences to those He knows will share them. We need to include our spiritual life in the talk of our regular life. Elder Burton said that we must help those in need if we desire to be close to the Lord.
