Luke 13:10-17
Here Jesus heals on the Sabbath and is rebuked by the ruler of the synagogue. Jesus tells him that they all care for their animals on the Sabbath, aren't people more important. But then in verse 17 it says, his adversaries were ashamed and the people rejoiced. Why would they rejoice? It seems to me that their religion had become a burden from a taskmaster who was irrational and arbitrary. Here they learn to trust their instincts. It seemed to them that compassion was always good -- and they found a God who told them that they were right.
