Matthew 5:21-22
21¶Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Jesus teaches here that the real sin is what is in your heart. This does two things. First, if you follow this counsel and try to never get angry with your brother, you'll never find yourself so angry that you would kill him. You are safe from this monumental sin. Second, it teaches us that what is in your heart is the real sin. This makes much more sense. Is someone who kills accidentally just as condemned as one who really wants to kill? God teaches that it is what is in your heart is how you will be judged. How fair! And it applies to everything so -- How easy! How easy to remember, anyway. You don't have to remember a list of commandments, you must remember to make your heart one that always loves. That is the key to it all.
