Luke 5:11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
I love this verse. It's one of my favorites. I marvel at their faith all over again every time I read it. Did they wonder how they would make a living? Did they have families for whom they needed to provide? Did they not even pause to sell their boats and settle their finances? No. I am thinking not. They knew, "This is it. This is the most important thing." And they followed that sense, that surety that they were doing right and that all would be right if they followed His call. Beautiful. Amazing.
I thought also today that there are other ways to "forsake all." In particular I was thinking of leaving my bed in the middle of the night to care for one of my little ones. Sometimes leaving my warm bed, my engaging dreams, and the health of uninterrupted sleep, feels like forsaking all! But that I do. Sometimes Kevin "forsakes all" in order to care for me when I am sick or help me here at home. So, I guess I can understand it in stages. :)
