I heard someone speak once about what Jesus said to his disciples after they found out that John "the beloved" would "tarry." Jesus answered their concerns by asking, "What is that to thee?" The speaker said that what Jesus meant was -- you have your own blessings and your own standing with me and you don't need to be concerned about what another's standing is with me.
So, I had almost the same thought myself this past week. I took the time to praise one of my children who needed it. Another child was listening and wanted to know if I didn't think good things of her, too and why I praised this other child? Immediately the thought came to my mind, "What is that to thee?" I was baffled because I do think this other child is wonderful and I do give her praise. Just because I praise someone else does not take away from the goodness of you!
It's funny how we are all about competition. Why do we think we have to be the best in order to be loved? This was an aha moment for me, because I could see the truth in my own heart that loving one did not preclude me from loving another. Because of that, I can understand and believe that God works the same way, too.
