Brother Wirthin said this at conference, "We get confused and think the best way to know if something is real is to see it and touch it. But that is not true. The spirit is the best way to know, not the second best, the best." Then he said that this helps us to rely on the spirit. It is faith and it is important not just for this life but faith is the power to create in the eternities and we will need our assurance ofthings we cannot yet see. I liked how this tied in with what I was reading in Joseph Smith's lectures on faith!
Brother Wirthin talked a lot about trusting Jesus. He said that those who trust God will be supported in their trials. He also said that a lack of trust in God brings sadness. I think it is the only thing that brings sadness.
He quoted Bro. Groberg as having said that in combat, "The main thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing." So it is in life! Don't forget the main thing!
President Harker said about youth, "When they had a passion, it was remarkable what they had accomplished!" He said that we need to be do-ers and not hear-ers, creators and not just consumers.
