"Many aspects of life bring happiness, and some bring sorrow. These experiences help you learn to distinguish between good and evil and to make correct choices." --church manual
This stuck out to me because I have always thought of this in terms of the big commandments and how the gospel helps me avoid sorrow by staying away from drugs, infedelity, greed, etc. But today I thought how I continue to learn through trial and error in the little things like how to react to someone else's anger, what to do with my own anger, what to joke about and what to respect. I learn these in the same way -- there are teachings and advice, but ultimately I learn by what brings me sorrow and what brings me happiness. And not any less important, how what I do affects the sorrow and happiness of others.
