Teaching

When I was a newlywed, my partner and I visited a divorced mom who told me about how her ex-husband used to study his scriptures for an hour at a time.  If either of his boys tried to enter the room to talk with him, he would explode, "Get out of here!  I'm trying to read my scriptures!"

I've told the story a lot of times now!  It's such a great warning to all of us to be careful that we don't just read and not apply what we read!

But I realized another application the other day.  I learned that story while visiting teaching a woman much older than myself and in another part of the country.  Because I was obedient, and did my visiting teaching, I can pass on her story to others.  I also had the honor to visit teach a woman in our ward who lived into her 90s.  I know all her stories.  The sisters moving in now never heard them.  I can pass on her stories to the younger sisters in our ward.  Visiting teaching provides a bridge from old to young, and as the young become older, back down to the young again.  It's inspired!
