Number 205: Thinking
Whenever we become aware of being motivated by something inappropriate, for instance the approval of others, we need to be sure to replace our wrong motivation with something right or we will be left with no motivation at all! That is, of course, if the thing was desirable, for instance, doing well in a calling, or cleaning the house. Which begs the question, is it better to do the right thing for the wrong reasons or not to do the right thing at all? Surely it must be better to do the right thing, but it does ignore the overriding purpose of mortality -- that of becoming like Christ in our inmost thought processes and motivations. So, our motivations should be examined, just, as I said in the beginning, make sure when you remove the old motivation, make sure to replace it with something -- hopefully something closer to what Christ would have us do.
