Day 181: Girls' Camp

A married couple from our ward attended camp this year. Wife went as a camp director and husband went as cook. My girls did not know them at all before camp. After camp, they couldn't tell me enough stories about how funny they were and kind and how fun they had made camp for them. This is wonderful enough, but later someone reminded me of something that I had completely forgotten. They had a son who committed suicide some ten years ago -- actually, I think there was some doubt whether it was suicide or an accident. Regardless, it was a tragedy. I'm sure it was super difficult. But, . . . if they had let it stop them, if they had decided that because they couldn't prevent this tragedy, that they couldn't offer anything of value to the world, then the wonderful experience my girls had at girls' camp would never have happened. And that is just one example of many wonderful things they have done as they have continued on through life. What a wonderful example to all of us that even when things go wrong, there are still plenty of opportunities ahead for things to go right. We need to embrace our opportunities to keep living.
