Day 96: Temple Night

I told my daughter the other night (as my dad had told me in my own life) that math wasn't so much about application as it is teaching you how to think. Which makes all those drills, those "exercises," productive -- you are giving your brain pathways which as you travel them over and over will give you avenues to solve other problems in your life. As I sat in the temple, gazing at the crocheted lace on the altar, I thought of the person who had made it by hand and how that, too, has merit for the brain in the paths that it disciplines itself into over and over. Going to the temple itself is a repetitive activity which also teaches us "how to think." As is church attendance. As is scripture study. As is prayer. We do these exercises over and over and we find that we can solve the problems in our life.
