Joseph says in the first lecture that Faith is the motivation for everything we do -- in that an assurance of things we can't see, motivates us to accomplishes those things. I see that. So, in temporal things, JS is speaking of faith but not faith in God. That's an interesting differentation. Why would he speak of non-spiritual things at all? He must be using these examples to help us understand better faith in spiritual things.
Then he says that faith is power. I have always understood this, in that I can tap into the power of God when I have faith in Him. When I have faith in God, He hears me and answers my prayers. It's like a reward. Maybe I am thinking wrong, though, and I will find out in a later lecture.
My question about power is, if faith is God's power, what is it that God has faith in? It can't be right that I can have power with faith in anything except faith in God, can it? I will keep reading and see what I find out!
